Who’s Really Behind "The Great Reset" Rhetoric?
By The Iconostasis · Aug 22, 2026
The phrase "Great Reset" started as the title of a World Economic Forum initiative and has since become a catch-all label for a much wider set of claims. Untangling the two requires looking at what was actually proposed versus what got layered on top afterward.
What Was Actually Proposed
The original initiative was a set of policy recommendations around post-pandemic economic recovery — nothing especially unusual for a policy forum. It's public, documented, and far narrower than the phrase's later usage suggests.
Where the Speculation Comes In
Online, the term expanded to describe a coordinated plan involving far more actors and far more control than the original documents describe. Some of that expansion tracks real overlapping interests worth scrutiny; much of it doesn't hold up against the primary sources.
A Better Approach
Read the original documents before forming a view on what they mean. Distinguish between "this organization proposed a policy" and "this organization controls world events" — those are very different claims requiring very different evidence.
